CTV Morning Live - Whip Into Shape Like An Olympic Athlete
You may not end up on any podiums, but at least you’ll have strong skier legs with this at-home Olympic version of a gold-medal fitness routine! Watch the full CTV segment HERE.
This workout is commonly used amongst Olympic Ski & Snowboard teams’ strength and conditioning coaches. These coaches pride themselves on simple workouts: high reps, use weight, create a good form, prevent injury.
Here’s what workout movements an Olympic Athlete would perform in the offseason:
10 Lateral Ski Jumps
20 Jump Squats
30 3-D Lunges
Optional: complete with a weighted vest.
While building up lower-body strength is key, teams also focus on working out the upper body, "to build up armour for inevitable crashes”:
10 Man Makers
20 Push Presses
30ft Overhead Dumbbell Carries
Olympic athletes spend hours everyday training, building their muscles, and perfecting their skills. Olympic training is more than a hobby, and even though most athletes’ workouts may be way more intense than ours, we can still adapt their workouts into something us everyday fitness lovers can do. Have fun, and go for GOLD!
