“Bring Sally Up” – Music & Fitness!
Just as important as my broken-in gym shoes are to me, my source of motivation, inspiration and distraction comes from MUSIC! I can’t count how many times people ask ‘what’s on your gym playlist’?
Working out with music has become so common that the two biggest names in both industries, Nike and Apple, have been joined at the hip with the Nike + iPod combination. So, what is it about music and exercise that feels so right? Syncing beats per minute with an exercise pace increases your efficiency. It also helps block out the little voice in your brain telling you its time to quit.
Recently I was inspired by a great way to add fun back into fitness with a song called ‘Bring Sally Up’ by Moby! Rich Froning, professional Crossfit athlete and winner of the ‘Fittest Man On Earth’ for the past 4 years, is the man that sparked it all. He tweeted:
CHALLENGE: to the song “Bring Sally Up” by Moby w/ a 135# barbell on back. Squat on “Bring Sally Down” Stand on “Bring Sally Up”
And it’s as easy as that – every time the song says ‘Bring Sally Up’ you stand up, and when it says ‘Bring Sally Down’ you stay down! This can be done with more than just squats (weighted or not) – try pushups, burpees, pullups, ring rows – you name it. In the 3:23 song you’ll have done 30 reps, not even realized it, and be sweating bullets!
